London blacklists Iranian officials, entities in crackdown on nuclear proliferation
The United Kingdom has added nine Iranian individuals and 62 entities to its financial restrictions list, citing their involvement in Iran’s contentious nuclear program.
According to a statement from the UK’s Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation, the newly imposed sanctions specifically target key sectors including Iran’s Ministries of Energy and Oil, alongside several major financial institutions, Caliber.Az reports.
These measures reflect growing international concerns over Tehran’s alleged activities related to nuclear weapons proliferation.
The UK government’s announcement underscores that the designated individuals and organizations are believed to have been engaged, either directly or indirectly, in the development or dissemination of nuclear weapons technology, activities potentially facilitating the creation of nuclear weapons, or the development of delivery systems capable of deploying such weapons.
Under the new sanctions, the listed individuals face a travel ban prohibiting entry into the United Kingdom, while any assets or bank accounts associated with the named individuals and entities within UK jurisdiction will be frozen.
