WSJ: Pentagon plans to double missile production amid China contingency
The Pentagon is planning to significantly ramp up missile and munitions production in preparation for a potential armed conflict with China, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reports.
Doubling production is part of broader U.S. efforts to strengthen defence capabilities in the Indo-Pacific region. Military officials and defence contractors are assessing the need to expand manufacturing capacity, modernise factories, and scale up supply chains to meet anticipated demand.
A major challenge lies in the gap between current production levels and the quantity of missiles and munitions that could be required in a large-scale conflict.
Increasing output will also require private sector engagement, expedited licensing, and a reduction of bureaucratic hurdles within the defence industry.
Pentagon officials acknowledge the risks involved, including the need to balance investment, ensure supply reliability, and avoid logistical bottlenecks.
