Construction of Lachin International Airport nears completion in Azerbaijan
Acting executive director of the Restoration, Construction, and Management Service in Azerbaijan's Lachin district Tofiq Islamov has said that the construction of the international airport in Gorchu village, located in Lachin, is nearing completion.
Islamov made these remarks during a panel discussion as part of the Caspian Construction Week, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
This airport is expected to accommodate up to 200 passengers per hour and would facilitate travel to and from the district. The tourism potential will be fully used thanks to air hub. The runway of the Lachin International Airport, foundation of which was laid in 2021, will measure 3,000 meters in length and 60 meters in width.
The airport terminal, designed to meet international standards, will cover an area of 5,000 square metres. The air hub is situated 30 kilometres from Lachin city, 70 kilometres from Shusha, and 60 kilometres from Kalbajar.
Lachin International Airport, set to be the third international airport in the Karabakh region, had its foundation laid in 2021 by Azerbaijani President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Ilham Aliyev. The construction project is on track for completion in 2025.
