Construction pace in Azerbaijan’s de-occupied Karabakh now encompassing Fuzuli With new projects changing face of district once blown to bits

18 October 2023 16:18

Azerbaijan is gradually relocating former IDPs back to their native lands by constructing new homes in villages and towns, where they used to live nearly 30 years ago until when Armenia occupied seven districts in concert with the whole of now-defunct Nagorno-Karabakh autonomous region.

Fuzuli District – one of the scenic regions of Azerbaijan in close proximity to the Araz River, is now being rebuilt with implementation of modern-day architectural novelties to make life for IDPs convenient.

In the meantime, with the government’s best efforts, over 1,000 Fuzuli residents have already tasted the sweetness of the long-awaited homecoming after 30 years at their new homes.

On October 17, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev paid another visit to Fuzuli city under reconstruction to attend the Fuzuli City Day, where he met with residents who moved to the city.

Addressing locals, Ilham Aliyev said the ongoing projects implemented both in Fuzuli and in all our other cities and villages are establishing new rules of urban planning on a global scale.

He added that “international organizations highly appreciate them, because the best living conditions have been created here – in terms of the interior of buildings, the interior design of apartments, the principle of floors, the distance between buildings – everything is observed. So, there is entire infrastructure and are conditions available for a comfortable life. All our cities will be like Fuzuli. Because we are implementing the first urban development project in Fuzuli”.

In the meantime, following in the footsteps of the Azerbaijani president, a media tour was organised for a group of media representatives to see the ongoing construction pace in Fuzuli and get more information.

“The third residential complex, the foundation of which was laid by President Ilham Aliyev on October 16 in the city of Fuzuli, will consist of two areas located in a multifunctional zone, and over 3,000 people will live there, Eldar Seyidov, the chief adviser to the special mission of the Azerbaijani president in the territories liberated from occupation that are part of the Karabakh economic region (with the exception of the Shusha District).

He added that over 12 hectares of land have been allocated for the construction of the complex that will consist of 863 apartments for 3,022 people. There will also be 18 one-room apartments, 276 - two-room, 370 - three-room, 199 - four-room. On October 16, the Azerbaijani president also laid the foundation for the village of Cuvarli, Fuzuli District, for about 1,700 residents, Eldar Seyidov told the media.

He specified that the total designed area of the village is 115 hectares and the plan is to build 291 private houses and 21 residential buildings (2-4 storeys).

He also added that an administrative building, a school for 312 students, a Flag Square, a cafe-restaurant, a sports club, a pharmacy, a kindergarten for 50 places, a recreation area, a library, a shopping facility, a market, etc. will also be built on the territory of the village.

Another village where the Azerbaijani president was on October 16 is the village of Gocahmadli, where 1,364 people are to live, Eldar Seyidov added.

“In total, 341 private houses are planned to be built there. At the first stage, a land plot of 18.1 hectares will be allocated for construction, where 204 private houses will be built. At this stage, it is planned to resettle 710 people (204 families) to the village,” the official said.

In the village, it is planned to build a multifunctional administrative building, Flag Square, a cafe-restaurant, a ceremonial house, a pharmacy, a sports club, a family health center, a recreation area and a green area, a club and community center and a library, a shopping facility, and a guest house, the report added.

To recap, the report adds that all conditions will be available for employment and a 264-seat school, a 25-seat kindergarten will also be built in Gocahmadli, he said.
