Czech leader sounds alarm over fragile European peace
Czech President Petr Pavel has warned that peace in Europe can no longer be taken for granted, stressing that it must be actively protected and defended amid growing global uncertainty, The Guardian reports.
A retired NATO general, Pavel said that “peace in Europe can no longer be treated as the default state of affairs.”
“It must once again be actively protected, defended and maintained,” he said. “The lesson of this moment is not that Europe is alone, it is that Europe needs to be strong enough to stand on its own when needed.”
He urged European countries to use all available tools to strengthen their strategic position, warning that “history will simply not wait for Europe to become ready.”
“We must act swiftly,” Pavel added.
