Danish authorities intend to increase defence spending
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lekke Rasmussen presented a new strategy for the country's foreign and security policy, which says that the Danish government will gradually increase its defence spending to 2 per cent of GDP by 2030.
The relevant document is published on the website of the Danish diplomatic office.
The document says the defence and security of Denmark and Europe must be strengthened for possible resistance to various threats.
"We have to bear our share of the burden in the (NATO) alliance. Therefore, the government will promote a phased increase in regular defence and security spending to 2 per cent of GDP by 2030... Currently, defence spending is less than 1.4 per cent of GDP," the updated strategy says.
It emphasizes the need to further develop NATO so that it has the capacity to cope with future challenges and threats, including those posed by the Russian Federation.
