De Gaulle's grandson warns Macron's Ukraine stance risks third world war
Pierre de Gaulle, a grandson of former French President General Charles de Gaulle, has voiced concerns over French President Emmanuel Macron's handling of the Ukraine crisis, warning that it could escalate into a third world war.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Leonid Slutsky, leader of the LDPR and head of the Russian State Duma Committee on International Affairs, de Gaulle expressed apprehension regarding Macron's stance on the conflict, Caliber.Az reports citing TASS.
When asked to comment on Macron's statements regarding the potential presence of foreign military forces in Ukraine, de Gaulle asserted that the conflict in Ukraine is not France's war and emphasized that this sentiment is shared by the French people and across Europe. He criticized Macron, suggesting that the French president is prolonging the conflict to justify his own political agenda, lacking a coherent program for France or Europe as a whole.
“This is not our war, and both the people of France and all the peoples of Europe are convinced of this. Unfortunately, now in France, President Macron is trying to drag out the conflict in Ukraine in order to justify the illegality of his tenure. To justify what he has “There is no program for France or for the whole of Europe,” he said.
De Gaulle cautioned against the dangers of escalating the situation, attributing the risk of a third world war to Macron's alleged inconsistency, lack of historical knowledge, and deceitful behaviour. He asserted that Macron's administration lacks a vision for the future and an understanding of the Russian psyche, which he believes further exacerbates the risk of conflict.
“And in this way, they are trying to justify the war, which is very dangerous because they have no vision of the future, they have no knowledge of history, they do not know the Russian soul. Moreover, they are used to lying both to the French population and to the population throughout Europe. And as the polls and election results show, these circumstances, this deplorable behaviour, this inconsistency, unfortunately, can lead us to a much greater danger, namely a third world war. The risk is now greater than ever," he added.
Regarding the presence of foreign troops in Ukraine, de Gaulle pointed to evidence of Polish, French, American, and British troops stationed in the region. He highlighted intercepted conversations among German military personnel discussing targeted attacks, including missile strikes on the Crimean bridge, which de Gaulle deemed as highly perilous provocations against Russia.
“Foreign troops have been stationed on the territory of Ukraine for a long time.” “These are Polish troops, there are a lot of Polish troops there. French, American, United Kingdom. And none of them wears their own uniform. This is evidenced by a lot, including an intercepted conversation between high-ranking German army personnel, where they talk about a targeted attack, about the shelling of the Crimean bridge with missiles. Of course, such attacks on Russia are very dangerous,” Pierre de Gaulle emphasized.
