Death of Armenian servicemen in non-combat circumstances on the rise
Over the last three years, the number of deaths in the Armenian army in non-combat circumstances has increased.
The head of the department for protecting the rights of military personnel and their families under the Ombudsman’s Office, Andranik Egoyan, said, Caliber.Az reports with reference to the Armenian media.
On October 13, a meeting of the expert council on the protection of human rights in the Armed Forces was held at the office of the Ombudsman of Armenia with the participation of representatives of the Defence Ministry, the Prosecutor-General’s Office, the Investigative Committee, the National Security Council, the Security Council, the Chamber of Lawyers and public organizations.
They discussed issues of non-combat losses, strengthening discipline in the army, and the rights of participants in military training.
“The combat readiness of the Armed Forces is directly related to military discipline. Over the past 3 years, there has been an increase in cases of self-harm and deaths in the army, which cannot but cause concern,” Egoyan said.
The Ombudsman's Office is currently considering several complaints regarding the death of military personnel in peaceful conditions.
