Kremlin reaffirms commitment to energy infrastructure moratorium
The Kremlin has reiterated its commitment to upholding a temporary moratorium on strikes against Ukraine's energy infrastructure, despite Kyiv's continued failure to join the agreement, said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.
According to Peskov, Moscow also expressed disappointment over the lack of response from the United States regarding Ukraine's non-compliance, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
"Russia remains steadfast in its adherence to the temporary moratorium on attacks against Ukraine's energy infrastructure, as outlined in agreements with the United States," Peskov said.
Speaking at a briefing, Peskov emphasised that Moscow has kept Washington informed about the situation. "The Russian side continues to adhere to this moratorium. Ukraine's violation, or rather its refusal to join the moratorium, persists," Peskov stated. He added that the U.S. had yet to offer any official reaction to Ukraine's disregard for the agreement.
In response to queries about U.S. President Donald Trump’s potential new sanctions on Russia, particularly targeting the oil sector, Peskov reiterated that Putin remains open to peace talks. "President Putin is open to diplomatic and political negotiations for an eventual settlement of the conflict in Ukraine," he remarked, noting that the commitment to the moratorium is a testament to this willingness.
Peskov also dismissed any connection between Trump’s upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia and potential talks with Putin, confirming that there are no plans for a meeting between the two leaders at this time. "The visit is part of Trump's agenda and is not related to Putin," he clarified, also adding that there is no definitive timeline or location for any possible future encounter between the two leaders.
