Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan forge stronger tourism ties with Silk Road initiative
Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are planning to expand their collaboration in the tourism sector, with a focus on promoting a unified tourist route along the Great Silk Road.
On April 4, a meeting took place in Samarkand between Umid Shadiyev, Chairman of Uzbekistan’s Tourism Committee, and Azada Huseynova, Deputy Chairwoman of Azerbaijan's State Tourism Agency, Caliber.Az reports, citing the website of the Uzbek government.
As a result of the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Azerbaijan’s National PR Center and the Tourism Bureau. The document aims to develop and promote a joint tourist route along the Silk Road.
The main goal of the collaboration is to consolidate the tourism resources of both countries within the "Joint Silk Road Highlights Tour" initiative. The project will focus on promoting tourism routes across Central Europe and emphasize key historical Silk Road landmarks such as Baku, Shemakha, Sheki, Khiva, Bukhara, and Samarkand.
The memorandum also outlines plans for joint B2B events, roadshows, and participation in international tourism exhibitions.
“Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, strategically positioned along the central stretch of the Silk Road, are strengthening their partnership to increase their competitiveness in the global tourism market. The signing of this document opens up new opportunities for industry growth and strengthens the cultural and economic ties between the two nations,” the statement said.
