Diplomat: Russia actively coordinating with Armenia over oligarch's case
Press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov has said that Russia continues engaging with Armenian partners concerning the recent arrest of Armenian tycoon Samvel Karapetyan.
The diplomat made these remarks during a briefing with reporters, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Peskov emphasised the close ties between the two countries, stating, “Of course, we are in contact with our partners in Armenia. Armenia is an important ally for us. We have well-developed and multifaceted relations.”
He further noted that since Karapetyan holds Russian citizenship, “the appropriate contacts are being maintained.”
Earlier, Samvel Karapetyan, Armenian-Russian businessman and head of the Tashir Group, said that if Armenia’s political leaders fail to halt Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s campaign against the Armenian Apostolic Church, he and his associates will intervene. Karapetyan condemned attacks on the Church, highlighting its millennia-old significance to the Armenian people. Shortly after his statement, Armenian media reported Karapetyan’s detention by law enforcement, though official details remain unclear. Police have also begun searching his home and detained several individuals.
