Iran plans to tackle corruption in foreign currency allocation, says president
The Iranian government intends to address corruption in the distribution of foreign currency reserves, President Masoud Pezeshkian announced.
According to Pezeshkian, implementing this plan will restore market stability and increase the purchasing power of the population, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He added that production of raw materials for the industrial and agricultural sectors is expected to rise. Pezeshkian stated that achieving this goal would reduce the country’s dependence on imports and strengthen and protect its foreign currency reserves.
Protests have spread across Iran since December 28, 2025, starting at Tehran’s Grand Bazaar, where demonstrators reacted to the rial’s sharp drop and deteriorating economic conditions. The unrest has now reached cities across the country.
