Director of Russian pyrotechnics plant detained after fire kills 14

The director of a pyrotechnics manufacturing company in the village of Kubrinsk, Yaroslavl region, was detained in Moscow following a fire that killed 14 people, the Telegram channel 112 reported. According to the channel, the detainee is Alexei P.

The fire broke out on September 28 in two buildings on the premises of the firecracker manufacturing facility. According to the latest data from Russia’s Emergencies Ministry, 14 people were killed, and another woman was hospitalised.

The fire has been extinguished, while emergency responders continued clearing the rubble at the site.

The regional branch of Russia’s Investigative Committee opened a criminal case over violations of industrial safety requirements at hazardous production facilities that resulted, through negligence, in the deaths of two or more people.

The official cause of the fire has not yet been established.

The Yaroslavl region has declared September 30 a day of mourning.
