Rocket strike hits Iraq’s Khor-Mor gas field, forces production halt updated / video
On November 27, Dana Gas confirmed that the Khor-Mor gas field in Iraqi Kurdistan was hit by a rocket attack.
The company reported that none of its employees were injured, but one of the main condensate storage tanks was damaged, as per Caliber.Az, citing Iraqi media.
According to the statement, the rocket struck a storage unit at the facility, causing a fire that was later extinguished. Production at the gas field has been temporarily halted to assess the damage and ensure safety. Dana Gas said it continues to coordinate with local authorities to restore operations and resume gas supply to the market as soon as possible.
The region’s energy system was severely affected following a drone attack on Khur-Mor late Wednesday, with the Ministry of Electricity confirming that nearly 80% of electricity production was lost due to the interruption in gas extraction.
The Civil Defence Directorate in Chamchamal reported on Thursday that the large fire, triggered by the rocket strike, had been fully brought under control. According to the directorate, the flames engulfed one of the storage tanks and burned for nine hours before firefighters were able to contain the blaze early Thursday morning.

A drone attack has halted operations at the Khor Mor gas field—one of the largest natural gas sites in Iraq’s Kurdistan region—field engineers reported on November 26.
Reuters writes that Iraq’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Ministry of Electricity issued a joint statement confirming that, in the aftermath of the strike, all gas deliveries to power plants in the Kurdistan region have been completely suspended.
Security officials said the attack damaged storage tanks at the field, sparking a fire and injuring several workers.
“A drone struck a critical gas storage facility at the field, causing extensive damage. The fire is still burning,” one worker told the agency from a field shelter where employees had taken refuge due to concerns about additional attacks.
According to the joint statement, investigative teams from both ministries, along with representatives from Dana Gas — a UAE company and one of the field’s operators—are currently at the site to examine the incident.
The identity of those responsible for the strike remains unknown.
This marks the second drone incident targeting the field in recent days. On the evening of November 23, Iraqi Kurdish security forces fired on a drone to keep it from approaching the site.
