Egyptian aid plane arrives in Damascus with 15 tons of relief supplies
On January 4, an Egyptian aid plane landed in the Syrian capital Damascus, delivering 15 tons of essential medical and relief supplies.
The shipment is part of Egypt's ongoing efforts to support Syria's recovery amidst its prolonged humanitarian crisis. Caliber.Az reports via Arab media.
The aid includes tents, blankets, food supplies, medical equipment, and medicines, aiming to address the immediate needs of affected communities in Syria.
“Today, January 4, 2024, a civilian cargo plane belonging to EgyptAir delivered 15 tons of humanitarian, medical and food aid provided by the Egyptian Red Crescent to the Syrian Arab Red Crescent,” the statement said.
It said the aid was provided as part of Egypt's “desire to support the brotherly Syrian people,” adding that Egypt was on its side and emphasizing the historical relations between the two countries that bind them together.
The statement also said that Egypt's Charge d'Affaires in Syria received the aid shipment.
Moreover, it emphasized that Egypt has been at the side of the Syrian people “over the past years” and has hosted many Syrian citizens.
In December 2024, liberation forces led by Syria's current ruler Ahmed al-Sharaa toppled longtime Syrian President Bashar al-Assad after a popular uprising that began in 2011.
The uprising and its suppression by the state plunged the country into a humanitarian and economic crisis.
