Egyptian FM urges prevention of regional war
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has said that efforts must be made to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East and prevent the situation from escalating into a regional conflict, especially given the recent intensification of tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border.
Abdelatty made these remarks during a meeting in Tokyo with his Japanese counterpart, Yoko Kamikawa, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
"We must prevent further escalation in the region to avoid a conflict that could engulf the entire Middle East and threaten the security and stability of all its inhabitants," Abdelatty said.
The foreign ministers of Egypt and Japan also discussed the situation across the region and highlighted the importance of "continuing negotiations for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which could bring an end to the catastrophic conditions in the enclave."
The statement from the Egyptian foreign minister came just hours after a new escalation between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah.
