Russian Shahed drones begin dropping anti-tank mines
Russian Shahed drones have started using a new, dangerous tactic—dropping PTM‑3 anti-tank mines in flight, electronic warfare expert Serhiy Beskrestnov said.
According to Beskrestnov, the drones mine both specific areas and zones near their own crash sites, aiming to target emergency or police personnel who arrive to inspect a downed drone, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
The PTM‑3 mines are equipped with magnetic fuses and can be dropped from varying distances as the drone approaches its target, making their locations unpredictable.
He noted that such incidents have occurred before, but the threat has increased significantly due to deep snow cover.
Previously, mines could be visually detected, but now they are hidden under snow. One such incident was reported on January 11 in the Rivne region.
