Energy crossroads: Azerbaijan looks West and green at Baku ministerial meeting VIDEO BY EURONEWS
Baku hosted two major international energy events last week, highlighting Azerbaijan’s growing role in both traditional and renewable energy sectors.
According to Euronews's special edition Energy Frontiers, the 11th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 3rd Ministerial Meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council brought together representatives from 24 countries.
At the meetings, Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov outlined the country’s strategic plans to expand natural gas deliveries to Europe. He also announced that Azerbaijan aims to increase the share of renewable energy in its domestic energy production to more than 33% by 2027.
EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen reaffirmed Europe’s goal to reduce dependence on Russian gas by advancing the continent’s energy transition. He emphasized that cooperation with Azerbaijan plays a key role in that strategy.
The events also featured updates on the Caspian–Black Sea–Europe Green Energy Corridor, a regional initiative aimed at enhancing energy connectivity. In addition, a new project was presented that would mark the first time Azerbaijan engages in energy cooperation with Central Asia, further strengthening regional energy ties.
