Erdogan commemorates 105th anniversary of Turkish freedom struggle Ataturk Memorial Day
The national liberation struggle of the Turkish people, which began 105 years ago in the city of Samsun, was the first stone in the foundation of the achievements of modern Türkiye.
The remarks were made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the occasion of Ataturk Memorial, Youth and Sports Day, celebrated annually on May 19, Azertag reports.
The Turkish leader honoured all participants in the freedom struggle of the Turkish people led by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
"The flame of the freedom struggle under the leadership of Ataturk spread from Samsun to Amasya, Erzurum, Sivas, Ankara and then to the whole of Anatolia. The spirit of unity, determination and heroism that May 19 symbolizes is the most valuable asset of the Turkish people, the key to success in the fight against challenges," the President's message reads.
The Turkish leader emphasized that the achievement of the declared goals, successful counteraction to pressure and provocations, preservation of high rates of development are possible only in the presence of unity, cohesion of the society around the ideas of May 19.
Erdogan urged his fellow citizens not to forget the history of their country, believe in the potential and strength of the people, support efforts for the comprehensive development of the state, and treat each other with respect.
