Türkiye calls peacekeeping in Ukraine premature until ceasefire established
Turkish authorities have indicated that, in light of the current developments in the conflict in Ukraine, it is premature to consider deploying peacekeeping forces to the region.
The position was conveyed in a report by TRT, which cited sources within the Turkish Ministry of Defence.
According to the sources, Türkiye continues to advocate for peace and stability within its region and remains committed to supporting all initiatives aimed at conflict resolution. However, they emphasized that a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine must be firmly established before any peacekeeping mission can be realistically planned.
“Türkiye is a country that promotes peace and stability in its region and seeks to support all initiatives in this direction. However, a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine must first be established, and only then should the framework of a [peacekeeping] mission be defined with a clear mandate and the contribution of each country,” the statement said.
The sources cautioned against premature assessments based on speculative forecasts, underscoring that any decisions regarding peacekeeping efforts should be grounded in verified facts and concrete developments.
