Kazakh leader calls for special award honoring Trump’s peace efforts

20 February 2026 09:12

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has put forward a proposal to establish a special award bearing the name of US leader Donald Trump.

The proposal was announced during the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace, with the session broadcast live on the YouTube channel of the White House.

“I would like to propose the establishment of a special Board of Peace award named after President Trump in recognition of his outstanding efforts and achievements in the field of peacebuilding,” the Kazakh leader said.

Tokayev also expressed confidence that, under Trump’s leadership, the Peace Council would be capable of successfully fulfilling its mission.

Trump initially introduced the idea of creating the Board of Peace in September 2025 as a mechanism intended to oversee temporary governance arrangements in Gaza. The concept was subsequently expanded to cover broader global conflicts as well as post-crisis stabilisation initiatives.

Trump chaired the body’s first meeting in Washington on February 19, attended by delegations from 47 countries together with representatives of the European Union.

Funding for the Board of Peace will come from contributions made by participating states, while permanent membership will be granted to countries committing at least $1 billion during the first year.

The initiative is intended to combine political coordination with financial oversight tools designed to manage reconstruction efforts and stabilisation programmes.
