Russia calls for elevated diplomatic format in Ukraine talks
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that Moscow has proposed elevating the level of heads of delegations involved in negotiations with Ukraine, in a bid to enhance the diplomatic framework of ongoing discussions.
Speaking at a press conference, Lavrov said the initiative follows a recent phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“Following the telephone conversation the day before yesterday with President Trump, our president made a proposal not only to continue these negotiations but also to consider elevating the status of the heads of delegations,” Lavrov stated.
He emphasized that the move aligns with Russia’s broader initiative to structure the negotiations around distinct areas, including political, military, and humanitarian components.
“This aligns with our suggestion — which I just mentioned — that within this process, a separate track should be dedicated to addressing political aspects of the settlement, alongside military and humanitarian issues,” Lavrov said.
