TV chief: Russian host Solovyov must lose Order for inciting attacks on Armenia “This is our shame”
Armenian authorities have responded sharply to comments by Russian television presenter Vladimir Solovyov, who suggested that a so-called “special military operation” could be conducted in Armenia.
Tigran Hakobyan, chairman of Armenia’s Commission on Television and Radio, has called for Solovyov to be stripped of the country’s Order of Honour, describing the broadcaster as a “maniac”, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
The Order of Honour is a state award of the Republic of Armenia, established in August 2002 to recognise significant contributions to strengthening friendship between Armenia and other nations.
Solovyov was awarded the honour in December 2013 for his role in fostering ties between Armenia and Russia.
Speaking to the press, Hakobyan criticised Solovyov for advocating military action against Armenia, comparing the potential consequences to the destruction witnessed in Ukraine, including widespread civilian casualties, displacement, environmental damage, and the devastation of towns and cities.
“Someone who claims to love and respect Armenia yet calls for such catastrophic measures cannot be considered worthy of one of our highest national awards. This is a disgrace,” Hakobyan said.
He added that, under existing Armenian law, revoking the Order of Honour would be a simple and appropriate step in response to threats against the nation.
