Türkiye hosts discussions on media cooperation to advance Turkic integration
Discussions were held in Türkiye on the role of media in strengthening cooperation and integration across the Turkic world, with participants highlighting the importance of a shared information space and coordinated response to disinformation.
The event, titled “The role of Turkic unity in the global space: Media cooperation between Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Uzbekistan”, took place at the Turkish-Azerbaijani Foundation for Friendship, Cooperation and Solidarity (TADİV) and brought together diplomats, academics, representatives of think tanks, NGOs and media professionals.
According to AZERTAC, the meeting was jointly organised by TADİV and the Public Association “Media Research and Monitoring Centre”, with support from the Agency for State Support to NGOs of Azerbaijan.
Opening the discussions, TADİV Chairperson Professor Aygün Attar underlined the importance of consolidating unity within the Turkic world, describing media organisations as a key instrument in building closer ties between societies and improving mutual understanding among Turkic states.
Referring to remarks by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Attar reiterated the statement: “The Turkic world is our family; we have no other family,” noting that this concept has become a guiding principle in Azerbaijan’s foreign policy and is increasingly reflected in broader regional cooperation frameworks.
Attar also stressed the need for closer collaboration between media institutions to counter misinformation and what she described as externally driven disinformation campaigns targeting the region.
Former Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Hulusi Kılıç, alongside the Chairman of the Centre for Media Studies and Monitoring Zaur Gariboglu and other speakers, said media cooperation plays a decisive role in advancing integration among Turkic-speaking countries and in shaping a more unified regional narrative.
Participants said stronger media ties could support not only cultural and political alignment, but also contribute to deeper economic cooperation across the region. They added that solidarity and coordination remain central to the long-term development of the Organisation of Turkic States.
