Senior Russian MP calls for Oreshnik strikes on Kyiv decision centres
A senior Russian lawmaker has called for missile strikes on Ukrainian cities and the use of the “Oreshnik” weapon against decision-making centres in Kyiv in response to Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian cities.
Alexey Zhuravlev, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defence, made the remarks in comments to Gazeta.Ru following a Ukrainian Armed Forces drone attack on the Russian city of Voronezh, Caliber.Az reports.
“We need to make it a rule—and make sure our enemy understands it—that for every Russian city shelled, three to five Ukrainian cities will be held responsible,” Zhuravlev said. “If there is a raid on Voronezh, then the very next day our missiles should head toward Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk. And additionally, an ‘Oreshnik’ strike on Kyiv, somewhere closer to Bankova or Hrushevsky streets.”
He argued that a guaranteed response of this kind would significantly reduce Ukraine’s willingness to launch drones, claiming that “each such launch would pose a potential threat to those responsible or their relatives.”
“This is not cruelty; under current combat conditions, it is a conscious necessity,” Zhuravlev said, adding that protecting Russian cities requires the complete elimination of what he described as the Kyiv regime, arguing there is no alternative.
Ukrainian drones attacked Voronezh overnight on January 11, injuring four people—one man and three women. One of the wounded later died, and three residential buildings were damaged.
