Tbilisi City Hall launches tender for historic tram line
The Tbilisi City Hall has launched a tender for the procurement and construction of a tram line project, city authorities announced.
The information was shared by the city’s mayor, Kakha Kaladze, as reported by Georgian media and cited by Caliber.Az.
“This is a very important project for Tbilisi. For the first time in Georgia’s history as an independent country, a tram project will be implemented,” Kaladze said during a city government meeting.
He added that the project has been carefully planned, with full information on the areas where the tram line will be constructed.
“Given the population growth, it is necessary to create alternative modes of transport. In this case, the tram is the most optimal,” the mayor noted.
Kaladze emphasised that the tram will be an environmentally friendly option and, over the long term, significantly more cost-effective than other forms of ground public transport.
According to the mayor, the tram line will span 7.5 kilometres and include 11 stops.
“The tram will be integrated into the existing public transport network. A unified, flexible, comfortable, and sustainable transport system will be created to meet the needs of every resident,” Kaladze added.
