Close Armenian PM ally moves from parliament to party leadership
In Armenia, Arsen Torosyan, chairman of the permanent parliamentary commission on health care and a member of the ruling Civil Contract party, has announced his decision to resign from the National Assembly.
The development was made public by the parliament’s press service, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
“The speaker of parliament has already received the deputy’s statement,” the press service of the National Assembly of Armenia confirmed.
Torosyan has recently been highly active in promoting the initiatives and policies of the current government. According to media reports, he has already secured a seat on the Civil Contract Party’s board of directors and may soon be appointed to another significant position within the party or government structure.
Torosyan was elected to the National Assembly in 2021, following the results of Armenia’s extraordinary parliamentary elections. Prior to his election as a deputy, he held the position of Armenia’s Minister of Health, bringing extensive experience in public health and government administration to his parliamentary role.
His resignation marks a notable shift within the ruling party, as Torosyan has been considered a close ally of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and a key figure in advancing the government’s legislative agenda, particularly in health and social policy.
