Estonia urges Ukraine to continue strikes on Russian targets
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has called on Ukraine to continue conducting drone strikes against targets inside Russia, while also urging greater caution to prevent drones from straying across borders.
Speaking as reported by Ukrainian media, Tsahkna said Estonia does not support incidents in which Ukrainian drones enter its territory. However, he attributed responsibility for such occurrences to Russia, arguing that the conflict could be ended by Moscow at any time.
He also accused Russia of deliberately attempting to manipulate the situation by redirecting drones toward NATO territory while promoting false claims about allied involvement.
“The question is that now Russia is deliberately ‘pushing’ these drones into NATO territory, while at the same time spreading a fake narrative that NATO — that we, the Baltic states and Finland — are officially allowing Ukraine to use our territory for these attacks. This is not true. We have never allowed this. (...) We would like Ukraine to be more careful with the borders, but if you are striking the ‘lifelines’ of the Russian war machine in Ust-Luga, St. Petersburg and other places, it is very close to our borders. Putin is deeply concerned because almost 60 per cent of gas and oil exports go through these ports. Therefore, Ukraine must continue,” Tsahkna said.
He further stressed the need to maintain pressure on Russia and its leadership in order to bring the war in Ukraine to an end more quickly.
“It is necessary to continue putting pressure on Russia and its leadership in order to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible,” he said, adding that “frozen Russian assets will not be part of any agreement, whoever is involved, because this concerns the European Union.”
