EU approves €21 million military aid package for Albania
The Council of the European Union has approved a new military assistance package worth 21 million euros for the Armed Forces of Albania under the European Peace Facility.
The decision, announced on May 23, 2026, marks the third bilateral support package provided to Albania through this mechanism. With this latest allocation, the total amount of assistance delivered to the country has reached 49 million euros.
According to European Pravda’s correspondent, the funding is aimed at strengthening Albania’s defence capabilities and increasing the combat readiness of its armed forces. Officials in Brussels stated that the package will also enhance Albania’s ability to participate in European Union missions and operations under the Common Security and Defence Policy.
As part of the assistance, Albania will receive light armoured multi-purpose vehicles, as well as tactical and engineering transport. The package also includes related equipment and services, including training in the operation and technical maintenance of the supplied systems.
The EU Council also emphasised that the provision of this support reflects Albania’s full alignment with the European Union’s foreign and defence policy.
