EU imposes first-ever sanctions on Chinese state entity
The European Union has imposed sanctions on a Chinese company for the first time, the European Council announced.
“For the first time under the Belarus sanctions regime, a Chinese state-owned entity is targeted, due to its role in the production of Belarusian military goods,” the Council noted.
According to the statement, the measures target a Chinese state conglomerate, which is accused of potential involvement in the production of Belarusian military goods.
Today’s package continues to address Belarus’ role in enabling Russia’s war of aggression. The 20th sanctions package includes three new listings related to the Belarusian military-industrial complex.
Additionally, it includes measures intended to mirror those imposed on Russia, notably trade measures, legal protections, measures targeting cryptocurrency activities, and restrictions on the provision of cybersecurity services and tourism services.
