EU lauds positive developments in Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process
The European Union has expressed strong support for recent advancements in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, notably highlighting Azerbaijan’s removal of all cargo transit restrictions to Armenia.
The announcement was made by Magdalena Grono, the European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Grono underscored the EU’s appreciation for these tangible steps, affirming the Union’s readiness to back all initiatives and additional measures aimed at fostering mutual trust between the two nations.
She described the recent meeting in Geneva between the Azerbaijani and Armenian parliament speakers as a promising development. Furthermore, she welcomed the upcoming roundtable discussions in Yerevan involving civil society experts from both countries, emphasizing their potential to contribute positively to reconciliation efforts.
In addition, Grono expressed support for the announced preparations for a forthcoming meeting between Armenia and Türkiye, which aims to facilitate the restoration and reopening of the Gyumri-Kars railway line—an important project anticipated to enhance regional connectivity and cooperation.
