EU mission to assess Armenia’s visa liberalization benchmarks
The first European Union (EU) assessment mission is set to visit Armenia as part of the implementation of the Armenia-EU Visa Liberalization Action Plan (VLAP), the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia announced.
The mission, composed of experts from EU member states, will conduct on-site meetings and discussions with relevant Armenian government departments to assess progress on the VLAP, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The visit will focus specifically on the implementation of Phase 1 benchmarks, which cover the legislative and policy frameworks across all four directions of the Action Plan.
Following the delegation’s visit, the European Commission will prepare the first evaluation report on Armenia’s progress, scheduled for publication in spring 2026. The assessment will follow a two-stage approach: the first stage will review initial benchmarks related to the development of legislative and policy frameworks, while the second stage will evaluate the practical implementation and enforcement of subsequent benchmarks.
“The EU Commission will regularly present progress reports based on on-site assessments, observations by EU member states’ experts, and detailed information provided by Armenia,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
