EU targets Belarus military sector, extends sanctions to 2027
The European Union (EU) has extended its sanctions against Belarus until February 28, 2027 as part of its 20th sanctions package.
"Today’s package continues to address Belarus’ role in enabling Russia’s war of aggression. The 20th sanctions package includes three new listings related to the Belarusian military-industrial complex and the Lukashenka regime," the EU Council announced.
For the first time under the Belarus sanctions regime, a Chinese state-owned entity has been targeted due to its involvement in the production of Belarusian military goods.
The package also introduces measures intended to mirror those imposed on Russia, including trade restrictions, enhanced legal protections, measures targeting cryptocurrency-related activities, and limitations on the provision of cybersecurity and tourism services.
