Europe actively takes gas from storage amid cold weather
Gas reserves in underground storage facilities in Europe have fallen below 80% amid the cold weather.
At the same time, inflows of liquefied natural gas to the region slightly increased as temperatures dropped, TASS reports.
According to Gas Infrastructure Europe, on January 13, gas withdrawal from European underground gas storage facilities amounted to 521 million cubic meters, and pumping - only 63 million. Since the beginning of the heating season on November 7, the EU countries have taken about 24.8 billion cubic meters of fuel from storage facilities.
Currently, the occupancy of underground storage facilities in Europe is 79.72%. This is 11.58 percentage points higher than the average for the last five years. There are 87.85 billion cubic meters of gas in storage.
Gazprom supplies gas for Europe by transit through Ukraine in the amount of 40.5 million cubic meters per day through the Sudzha station. This is the only remaining export route after the damage to Nord Streams.
The average gas price on the European TTF exchange in January is about $360 per thousand cubic meters. In December it was at $408.
