European Commission finds way to lower energy prices President says
President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen has stated that the volume of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia is planned to be reduced in the European market.
She made this statement while presenting the European Commission's agenda during a session of the European Parliament, where members are set to approve the new European Commissioners, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“This may lead to a decrease in energy costs. We must remove Russian natural gas from the European market and actively invest in green energy to reduce prices for our industries and consumers," she said.
The EU is continuing its efforts to reduce its reliance on Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG). Unlike crude oil, which has been banned from entering the continent for two years, super-chilled gas continues to flow into Europe. In fact, imports hit new record levels in 2024, underscoring the difficulty Europe faces in weaning off Russian supplies, driven by both energy security and economic concerns.
However, there may be an opportunity for the US to increase its LNG exports to help replace Russian imports. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed this idea during a phone call with re-elected President Trump.
