European Parliament MEPs demand resignation of EU antisemitism coordinator

A group of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) has sent a collective letter to the European Commission (EC) demanding the resignation of the EC Coordinator on Combating Antisemitism, Katharina von Schnurbein, due to her statements regarding Gaza.

“We believe that Ms von Schnurbein's reputation has been so gravely compromised by these revelations that we must call for her immediate replacement,” reads the appeal by 26 MEPs, as cited by the Brussels-based portal EUObserver.

Earlier, EUObserver reported on a closed meeting held by von Schnurbein with EU ambassadors in Tel Aviv on May 29, during which she allegedly downplayed reports of hunger in Gaza, questioned the legitimacy of protests in EU countries, and echoed rhetoric from the Israeli government about media bias.

None of her claims were supported by either her mandate or evidence, EUObserver noted.

According to the portal, the EC coordinator has also actively opposed the introduction of EU sanctions against Israel.
