Explosion reported near Israeli embassy in Copenhagen

An explosion has occurred close to the Israeli embassy in Denmark, coinciding with the first anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.

The blast took place approximately 500 metres from the embassy in Copenhagen, just five days after two explosions near the same building, for which two Swedish nationals were arrested, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

Copenhagen police inspector Trine Møller commented on the situation:

"We are, of course, investigating whether there might be a link to the earlier incident at the Israeli embassy."

However, she added, "There is no indication that this is the case," suggesting the explosion could have been caused by gunfire.

Local media outlets released images showing signs of a blast outside a residential building, about 500 metres from the Israeli embassy.

In a related development, Sweden's intelligence agency, Sapo, has indicated that Iran might have been involved in the explosions in Denmark on October 2, as well as a shooting incident near Israel's embassy in Stockholm the previous day.

Notably, Israel marked the first anniversary of the deadly Hamas-led attacks of October 7, 2023, with solemn memorials on October 7, as conflict with Gaza continues. The attacks, which left approximately 1,200 Israelis dead and 250 abducted, are regarded as the deadliest day in the country’s history.

At dawn, a moment of silence was broken by the cries of a bereaved mother at the Re’im forest, where hundreds were killed at a music festival last year. Explosions echoed nearby as the Israeli military launched airstrikes in Gaza.

The year-long conflict between Israel and Hamas has claimed over 40,000 Palestinian lives, while around 100 Israelis remain in captivity, many feared dead. With peace negotiations stalled, the conflict has escalated into a regional war, involving Israel's invasion of Lebanon and clashes with Iran.
