Filming of Lara Croft halted after Sophie Turner back injury
Production on the new series Lara Croft: Tomb Raider has been paused due to a back injury sustained by lead actress Sophie Turner, the Independent reports.
Doctors have described the Game of Thrones star’s injuries as “minor.” A representative for Amazon MGM Studios stated that the studio looks forward to resuming production soon. It is unclear whether Turner was injured during filming.
Turner plays archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft in the series, directed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
During 2025 preparation for the role, Turner experienced back issues after training eight hours a day, five days a week. “I also realised that it’s much easier to build muscle if you’ve worked out before in your life, which I never had. So it's taken me months and months and months to get into good shape,” she said.
The new adaptation, based on the popular video game franchise, also stars Sigourney Weaver, Celia Imrie, and Jason Isaacs.
