Finland announces 28th military aid package for Ukraine worth €200 million
Finland has announced its latest military aid package for Ukraine, marking the 28th such instalment and amounting to approximately €200 million.
Finnish Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen revealed the new assistance during a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Rustem Umerov, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
The aid package must still receive final approval from both the Finnish government and the President.
“As in the past, the content of the aid package is not disclosed in detail. However, we can say that this time it includes, among other things, artillery ammunition, for which there is now a great need,” Häkkänen stated.
He emphasized that Finland maintains a strong and unified political stance on assisting Ukraine. “There is broad political support and national unanimity on the issue of aid to Ukraine,” he said.
Additionally, Häkkänen noted that Finland’s support for Ukraine is closely linked to its own security. “It is also valuable that we have been able to combine support for Ukraine with strengthening domestic security of supply through the industrial support program,” he added.
During their meeting, Häkkänen and Umerov signed a Memorandum of Understanding on defence cooperation, aiming to deepen collaboration between the two nations’ defence sectors. The agreement outlines enhanced cooperation in areas such as defence materials, information exchange, research and innovation, and munitions production.
This latest aid package follows Finland’s 27th military assistance package announced in January, which also amounted to nearly €200 million.
Beyond military support, Finland is investing in Ukraine’s long-term sustainability. The country is contributing €4.5 million to the Partnership Fund for a Sustainable Ukraine (PFRU), specifically supporting its second phase from 2025 to 2027.
Moreover, on November 28, 2024, Finnish defence company Summa Defense Ltd announced a joint project with Ukrainian partners to establish a drone production facility. This initiative underscores Finland’s commitment to enhancing Ukraine’s defence capabilities.
Finland and Ukraine have also deepened financial cooperation. On November 12, 2024, the two nations signed an agreement enabling Ukraine to access loans of up to €50 million.
