Finnish court refuses to hand over Russian citizen to Ukraine
The Supreme Court of Finland did not allow the extradition of 36-year-old Russian citizen Vojislav Torden (also known as Jan Petrovsky) to Ukraine.
The Helsingin Sanomat newspaper earlier reported on Torden's release by a Finnish court.
The publication notes that, according to the decision of the Supreme Court of Finland, there are no longer conditions for keeping the Russian in custody to ensure possible extradition to Ukraine.
In early October, Kyiv requested the extradition of Vojislav Torden. A Russian citizen who had a residence permit in Norway and Finland is accused of involvement in a terrorist group during the armed conflict in Donbass. Torden, fearing torture and ill-treatment at the hands of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies, requested asylum in Finland.
On July 19, 2023, Torden’s family passed through the Vaalimaa checkpoint, but the next day, before boarding the plane, Torden was detained for the first time by the police.
