Fire erupts at Russia's Samara aerospace site after overnight explosions PHOTO / VIDEO

A workshop at an aerospace facility in Samara, Russia, caught fire after an overnight attack on the city, according to an OSINT analysis by ASTRA.

The facility is believed to be associated either with the Progress Rocket and Space Centre or with the Aviakor aircraft plant, the analysis said.

During the night of August 15, Russia’s Unified State System for the Prevention and Elimination of Emergency Situations (RSChS) reported a missile threat in the Samara region. Witnesses subsequently posted photographs showing explosions and columns of smoke.

Based on footage published by the monitoring channel Exile Nova+, an OSINT analyst determined that an explosion had occurred at an industrial site as a result of the attack. The burning workshop could belong either to Aviakor or to the Progress Rocket and Space Centre. The two facilities are located directly adjacent to each other, according to a map included in the analysis.

The Progress Rocket and Space Centre is one of Russia’s leading rocket and space enterprises and is part of the state-owned Roscosmos corporation. Since 1994, it has been involved in the development and testing of the Soyuz-2 series of space launch vehicles, as well as spacecraft.

Aviakor Aircraft Plant is one of Russia’s largest aircraft manufacturers. The company specialises in aircraft production, the repair and maintenance of various types of aircraft, and component manufacturing. According to the company’s website, Aviakor has experience in the serial production of civilian and military aircraft using parts, assemblies and components manufactured in-house.
