Fire hits luxury hotel in French Alps, hundreds evacuated VIDEO
In the evening of January 27, a fire broke out at the five-star Grandes Alpes hotel on the luxury ski resort of Courchevelin in the French Alps.
As a result of the incident, 279 people were evacuated, the French BFM reports.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. Rescuers had difficulty reaching the source of the flames due to a thick layer of snow on the roof, which hindered the detection of smoke vents. As of Wednesday morning, the fire was still ongoing.

Courchevel has previously experienced fire-related tragedies. In the summer, a court in France sentenced the owner of a hotel where, in January 2019, a fire killed two people and injured about 20 others. The fire was caused by arson carried out by a man of Algerian descent who lived in the building with seasonal staff.
