Foreign expert highlights restoration of Imaret complex in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam

20 September 2024 15:49

Alessandro Bianchi, an international expert specializing in the restoration of historical monuments, has shed light on the extensive damage suffered by the Imaret complex in Aghdam during the Armenian occupation.

Speaking about the site's history and its significance, Bianchi remarked that the complex, which holds deep cultural value for Azerbaijan, was "completely destroyed" during the occupation, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

“They used this historically important building for keeping animals and other purposes,” Bianchi revealed, emphasizing the extent of neglect and misuse during the occupation period.

Now, standing as a symbol of post-war recovery, the Imaret complex is undergoing restoration as part of broader efforts to rehabilitate the Karabakh region.

According to Bianchi, the restoration of the complex represents a critical step in preserving the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan and revitalizing the city of Aghdam after decades of destruction.

The Imaret complex’s revival is part of Azerbaijan’s commitment to restore and protect its historical monuments, signalling a new chapter for Karabakh.

To recap, on September 19, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev took part in the opening of the Imaret complex in the city of Aghdam after restoration.
