Foreign Ministry: Russia welcomes breakthrough in Azerbaijan-Armenia peace talks
Spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova has said that Russia expressed its support for the completion of negotiations on the draft peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
She noted that Russia is prepared to offer a platform for direct dialogue between representatives of Azerbaijan and Armenia to facilitate the normalisation of their bilateral relations, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Zakharova emphasised that Moscow is committed to assisting in the signing of a peace agreement between Baku and Yerevan, as well as the reopening of transportation routes in the region.
"We are focused on providing every possible assistance to further advance the peace process and resolve remaining issues between Baku and Yerevan, including those necessary to reach a peace agreement, as well as matters related to the restoration of transport routes, demarcation of the joint border, and humanitarian issues, in a manner and form that will be acceptable to our partners," the diplomat stated.
On March 13, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan confirmed that negotiations on the draft Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia have been finalized, with both parties reaching an agreement on the text. This marks a major milestone in the peace process. Speaking to the media, Pashinyan clarified that while the full text has not yet been made public, key details have been openly shared.
He also noted that discussions regarding the timing and venue for the signing of the agreement will begin shortly. Meanwhile, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has expressed its readiness to continue negotiations, highlighting that amendments to Armenia's constitution and the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group are essential conditions for finalizing the agreement.
