Foreign travellers arrive in Azerbaijan's Shusha After exploring Fuzuli
A group of 33 travellers from the British club “Piki Reels,” led by Belgian citizen Yves Bouvier, recently visited Shusha after exploring Fuzuli.
The visitors arrived at Shusha’s central square, where they viewed the damaged statues of notable Azerbaijani figures, including Khurshidbanu Natavan, Bulbul, and Uzeyir Hajibayli, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
During the visit, the travellers received insights into Shusha’s history, particularly its condition during the years of occupation. It was highlighted that many historical buildings, mosques, and monuments in the city suffered extensive vandalism by Armenian forces during the thirty-year period of occupation.
Following Shusha's liberation, significant reconstruction efforts have launched. Alongside infrastructure development, initiatives to restore the city’s authentic historical character and cultural monuments are underway.
The travellers also explored several key sites, including the house of Khurshidbanu Natavan, the “Khangizi” spring, and the fortress walls. Additionally, they visited Shusha prison and also enjoyed breathtaking views from Jidir Duzu, appreciating the picturesque landscape.
This trip marks the 12th visit organized by the British “Piki Reels” Club, which aims to familiarize visitors with the reconstruction efforts in Karabakh and East Zangezur.
Over the past four years, the large delegations of the major international travel networks, such as ETIC, MTP, TCC, NomadMania and the Turkish Travel Club, as well as Turkish travellers club, British "Piki Reels", Swedish "Club 100" have visited Karabakh and East Zangezur 11 times, bringing over 400 travellers from more than 50 countries.
These trips are of great importance in terms of promoting Azerbaijani realities worldwide, allowing on-site familiarization with the massive destruction in the liberated territories and the ongoing large-scale reconstruction and renovation work in these lands.
