France holding monument to Azerbaijani poetess hostage? Diplomatic note remains unanswered
Despite the justified appeals of the Azerbaijani side in connection with the act of vandalism against the monument to outstanding Azerbaijani poetess Khurshidbanu Natavan in the French city of Evian, the monument is still in the same condition.
The Azerbaijani embassy in France sent an official letter to the mayor's office of Evian, according to Qafqazinfo.
According to the letter, after the act of vandalism, the monument cannot remain in this city. The Azerbaijani side wants to erect the monument on the territory of the embassy’s Cultural Centre. However, the mayor's office has not responded to this letter yet, and does not answer the embassy representatives’ phone calls. The diplomatic note sent to the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs also remained unanswered.
Perhaps, the French side does not know how to get out of this shameful situation and is artificially delaying the issue.
The monument, created by Azerbaijani sculptors Salhab Mammadov and Ali Ibadullayev, was installed in the “Azerbaijan Park” in Evian-les-Bains six years ago. All religious temples and historical monuments have been preserved in Azerbaijan, statues and bas-reliefs of such outstanding Europeans as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Nikola Tesla, Charles de Gaulle and others have been installed.
The attempt to remove the monument to Khurshidban Natavan, which was glorified by Alexandre Dumas, was regarded as a declaration of war against the representatives of culture worldwide.
This is like the abolition of all principles of enlightenment, the destruction of all diplomatic relations established between the two countries over the decades. This is the destruction of the bridge leading from the past to the future.
