French leader calls emergency security meeting after US strikes on Iran
French President Emmanuel Macron has called an emergency meeting of France’s Defense and National Security Council in response to the recent US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
The high-level session is scheduled to take place at 5:30 p.m. (GMT+2) and comes amid heightened tensions across the Middle East following the escalation, Caliber.Az reports via French media.
President Macron has already spoken with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of Oman to discuss the rapidly evolving situation.
“In the coming hours, he plans to continue consultations with European partners and regional leaders,” the presidential administration said in a statement, noting that France’s immediate priority is assisting French nationals who wish to leave Iran and Israel.
The US launched airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities on June 22 morning. US President Donald Trump stated that a full payload of bombs was dropped on Fordow, calling it the primary target of the operation. Satellite imagery has since revealed visible damage to the entrances of the Fordow facility and to the mountain under which the site is located.
