Georgia disaster death toll rises to 24 20 bodies identified
Georgia has been continuing search operations in the disaster zone for the ninth day. Firefighters found three bodies today.
At the end of the day, Temur Mghebrishvili, the head of the Emergency Situations Department under the Interior Ministry, made a brief comment to the media on the ongoing work, the Georgian media reports, citing the Interior Ministry of the country, Caliber.Az says.
Twenty-four bodies have been found so far, 20 of them have been identified, and the search for nine people continues. As Mghebrishvili noted, 40% of the area of the territory where the landslide has descended has been checked to date.
“Tomorrow, a perimeter of 54 km will be controlled, this is just in the area of the Ambrolauri airport, where the riverbed has already been deployed to the maximum. Now, 24 bodies have been found, 20 of them have been identified, and the search for nine missing continues. To date, 40 per cent of the area covered by the landslide has been checked,” Temur Mghebrishvili said.
