Georgia’s PM raises concerns over external influence in upcoming elections
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze Parliamentary elections in Georgia, scheduled for October 26 this year, are set to take place under conditions of unprecedented external interference.
Kobakhidze expressed concern over the situation, stating, "We observe that these parliamentary elections will occur amid an unprecedented level of gross external interference, which clearly violates the principles of fair elections. This is regrettable. However, it is reassuring to note that these external interventions will ultimately not influence the election outcome. Everyone is well aware of the motives behind such interference," Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of preventing the return of authoritarianism and foreign influence in Georgia, warning that, "If authoritarianism and foreign control were to return, it could lead to events similar to those in 2008, but in an even more severe form."
