Georgia’s prime minister reshuffles top security leadership
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has presented the candidacy of Interior Minister Gela Geladze for the post of head of the State Security Service (SSG), replacing Mamuka Mdinaradze, who will take charge of a new government structure, TASS reports.
“We will submit to parliament the candidacy of Geka Geladze for the position of head of the State Security Service,” Kobakhidze said at a briefing.
According to him, Mdinaradze, who previously led the SSG, will take on a newly created role as State Minister for Coordination of Law Enforcement Bodies and will also serve as Deputy Prime Minister.
Kobakhidze added that Sulkhan Tamazashvili, who has led the government of the Adjara Autonomous Republic since April 2025, will replace Geladze as Interior Minister. All candidates will require parliamentary approval.
Mdinaradze has headed Georgia’s State Security Service since September 2025. His appointment was associated with strengthening anti-corruption efforts and more active measures against drug-related crime. Geladze became the Interior Minister in May 2025.
